The Netherlands, one of the most investment friendly countries in Europe

The Netherlands is a very attractive location for companies that want to start or relocate their business operations. A recent study, conducted by the accountancy firm Deloitte, evaluates the Dutch business environment as being “very healthy”.
The Netherlands, one of the most investment friendly countries in Europe
Deloitte based the research on various metrics such as fiscal climate, labor market, integrated logistic services, housing and investment costs. In many of these criteria the Netherlands topped the European country list.
These positive results counter the negative perception of the Dutch investment climate. ‘The negative image of the Netherlands is unjustified.’, confirms Professor of Economics and Tax Partner in Deloitte, Peter Kavelaars.
Limburg is, after Amsterdam, the Netherland`s most popular investment region for foreign companies. In total, more than 300 foreign companies have offices in Limburg and they are aware of the regions logistic services and transportation warehousing. Due to fifteen new investment projects, the number of jobs in the region has increased by 750 in 2011.

Value Added Logistics: an important trend

Logistics is more than moving cargo from A to B. When cargo is on its way to the final consumer, logistic services can add value to the product by adapting it to the different target markets. These value added logistics activities are becoming more and more important as a logistics service.

Value Added Logistics: an important trend
The way in which logistics companies adapt products to a client or country through advanced logistics are diverse. Seacon Logistics from Venlo for example does a wide range of different value added activities. These value added logistic services vary from changing the plug of a device according to the target country, to relabeling packages and adding manuals in the required language to a product.

Value Added Logistics form part of the bigger trend in advanced logistics. Advanced logistics is about making logistics more efficient: innovating your logistical process, adapting the product and improving efficiency. The idea behind Value Added Logistics is that the logistic service company not only transports, warehouses and distributes the product, but also makes the product client and country specific.

The Limburg region in the Netherlands is specialized in advanced logistics, such as transport and warehousing and distribution for perishables and hazardous materials, green supply chain solutions and value added services such as relabeling and kitting and assembly.

New trends in the logistics industry: big data and cloud computing

The logistics industry is all about data and planning. An accurate planning of when a shipment arrives can only be made with enough data about the shipment, intermodal connections and speed of transport. Logistics service companies gather more and more information every time and are looking for new ways to keep track of all their data. The ICT and Logistics fair will help logistics companies to find new data solutions, such as integration of different systems.

New trends in the logistics industry: big data and cloud computing
There are two main trends in the field of information technology in the logistics industry:  big data and cloud computing. ‘Big data’ means the storage of a every time larger amount of data in various systems.  The amount of data and various systems make it difficult to handle the information, as it is difficult to integrate the different systems. Big data solutions make the exchange of data between systems possible and help structure information.

Cloud computing, or information technology services through internet-based tools and applications, is an interesting development for the logistics industry. Before information was stored offline. Cloud computing makes it possible to have up-to-date information anywhere, a good example are track and trace services.

Are you curious about these and more trends in the logistics industry? The ICT and Logistics fair will inform you about new information technology solutions.
